SAVs Need Our Help. PCDSA Answers The Call

The Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers (SAV) have been a vital source of assistance to our members on patrol. With their funding threatened, PCDSA was happy lend a helping hand.

01/19/23 The Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers- or SAVs as many of us know them by, have stood by our department for the last 40 years. Made up entirely of volunteers, this group of former deputies, cops, and community members have worked tirelessly to provide our deputies with the needed relief and support, typically on patrol. Unfortunately, recent changes in their funding sources have dried up drastically. Combined with the economic chaos created from the pandemic, this vital volunteer service who normally gives us a hand, needs our help.

You may not know this, but the SAVs are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that receives zero tax funding. That’s right, zero. That means SAVs must raise money needed to purchase their cars, fuel, uniforms, as well as equipment. This doesn’t even include the vast operation costs needed.

On January 19th 2023, Vice Chairperson Tyler Rivas was proud to present a $1000 donation from PCDSA to the SAVs. While only a small portion of what they need, the money will go to helping the organization remain afloat and provide funding for their operational needs.

Gary, Marie, and Jerry of the SAVs were on hand to accept this donation and wanted to say thanks to our members for their generosity. One of the best ways we can advocate for our members is by supporting those who support us. There is no doubt that the SAVs have always stood by our organization indirectly. They help make the jobs of our members easier so we can provide better service to the community, and they do it for no pay. To help the push for fundraising, the SAVs are hosting a Golf Scramble, scheduled to occur on March 26th, 2023 at the Beautiful Tucson Omni National Golf Course (2727 W Club Dr). Teams of four can participate in 18 holes in amazing weather, all for a great cause.

If you want to participate in the golf scramble, you can register a team here. Fees and other details are outlined on the website.

If you suck at golf but still want to help support this amazing group of people, you can donate to them by visiting this link. I know its hard to ask for money at the same time we’re advocating for better pay, but this is one of those groups that could use the support. We’re spoiled to have a group like this in the county.
